Francis Chan was born on August 31, 1967, to his Chinese father, Pak-sum Chan, and mother, Wan-bing Mui. Both of his parents were devoted churchgoers, and his father served as a minister in Leighton Baptist Church, Hong Kong.
Biography
Francis Chan is the third child of his parents and the youngest of his biological mother. His older siblings are Paul Chan and Grace Chan. Unfortunately, his mother passed away from birth complications (postpartum hemorrhage) during his birth. Afterward, Francis lived with his grandmother, who practiced Buddhism. When he was 8 years old, his father married Amy Chan in 1975, and they had a child named Gloria together. Tragically, Amy Chan lost her life in a car crash.
When Francis was 12, he experienced another loss as his father passed away from cancer. Despite their strained relationship, Francis acknowledges that the fear he had of his father helped him understand, to some extent, the fear of God. He mentions that since finding God, he doesn’t feel like he grew up without a father because God has always been there for him.
Family Life
Francis Chan is married to Lisa Chan, a musician, and they have a lovely family. Together, they co-founded Cornerstone Community Church in 1994 with a few others. While they have seven children, details about all of them are not widely known. However, three of their children are Rachel Chan, who follows in her mother’s footsteps as a musician, a son named Ezekiel Chan, and Dallal Chan.
Dallal Chan was adopted by Francis when his wife was pregnant with their sixth child. She was adopted at the age of 16, having previously lived on the streets and struggled with drug use. After giving her life to Christ at a Church camp, she was put up for adoption.
Francis expressed that Dallal is a blessing to him, and he feels genuinely happy to have adopted her. Initially unsure about moving in with the family, Dallal is now very happy she did. Before Francis became her father, she looked up to gangsters as her father figures.
