Anthony Tyrone Evans, commonly known as Tony Evans, is an American Christian pastor, author, speaker, minister, and television broadcaster. He was born on September 10, 1949, in Baltimore, Maryland, United States, to Mr. Arthur Evans and Mrs. Evelyn Evans.
When Tony Evans was 24 years old, a radio show producer from Houston contacted him, asking for preaching content to broadcast on his program for free. This marked the start of public broadcasting for Tony Evans, as he preached to an unseen audience in Houston while residing in Dallas.
Ministry
Pastor Tony Evans started Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship in Dallas, Texas, in 1976 with just 10 members meeting at his home. In 1981, he, along with his late wife Mrs. Lois Evans, founded the Urban Alternative to expand the ministry’s outreach due to the growing demand for Evans’ sermons.
Teaching Evangelism and black Church studies at DTS and serving on its Board of Incorporate Members, Baylor University recognized Evans as one of the 12 most effective preachers in the English-Speaking World. In 2017, he launched the Tony Evans Training Center, an online platform for Christian leaders unable to attend a seminary.
For over 40 years, Evans has been the founder and senior pastor of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship in Dallas, Texas, overseeing its growth from 10 to over 10,000 members. His preaching now reaches a global audience, with broadcasts on over 1,400 radio outlets in over 130 countries, reaching millions worldwide each week.
