Biography

Jentezen Franklin’s parents were Billy Franklin and Katie Franklin Lancaster. His father, a traveling preacher in North Carolina, passed away in 1991, but his mother is still active at Free Chapel.

Jentezen was born in Wilson, North Carolina, and grew up with his siblings: Richie Franklin, Jennifer Franklin, Jill Franklin, and Doyle Franklin. Sadly, Richie passed away in December 2012.

Family Life

Franklin and his wife Cherise got married in September 1987. They have been blessed with five children: Drake, Caressa, Caroline, Conner, and Courteney Franklin. Additionally, they are grandparents to two lovely grandchildren.

Education

Jentezen studied music at Atlantic Christian College (now Barton College). He learned tenor saxophone from Frank Mayes, and both he and his brother Richie played in the college jazz band.

However, he didn’t complete college because he left to follow his father’s guidance and pursue ministry. Eventually, he became an evangelist.

Ministry

After Roy Wellborn passed away in 1989, Jentezen became the pastor of Free Chapel. In 2007, he founded the second Free Chapel in Irvine, California. The first service took place on August 5, 2007, with about 163 people in attendance. Over time, the Free Chapel of Orange County has grown significantly, now serving thousands of people every week. Since 2004, Franklin’s church has organized an annual student conference called Forward.

In 2014, he opened Gwinnett Church in Suwanee, Georgia. Two years later, another campus was established in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Free Chapel also hosts the annual Forward Conference, featuring performances by Christian artists like Jeremy Camp.

Pastor Franklin is the host of the television program called Kingdom Connection, which is broadcasted weekly on major networks worldwide.
