Time Squares Church
David Wilkerson began the Times Square Church in 1987. Times Square was known for X-rated movies, strip clubs, prostitution, and drug abuse. Wilkerson felt a calling to help the people he saw as “physically destitute and spiritually dead,” so he started the church.
The church initially held services in Manhattan’s Town Hall on 43rd Street and later in the Nederlander Theatre on 41st Street.
In 1989, the church rented the former Mark Hellinger Theatre. They bought it from the Nederlander Organization in 1991, with the building valued at $15-18 million. It’s still the church’s location today.
Carter Conlon, who had been an associate pastor from 1994 to 2001, became the senior pastor in 2001.
The church hosts missionaries and visiting pastors from around the world. They emphasize prayer and even have a “prayer during preaching ministry.” Programs for high school students and young adults teach about God’s love and truth.
From 2007 to 2009, the church organized a prayer rally in Times Square called Prayer in the Square.
Tim Dilena became the Senior Pastor on May 5, 2020. He had a long friendship with the church’s founder, David Wilkerson, and had preached there for years.
