Phil Munsey is an American pastor, speaker, and author. He works as a pastor at The Lakewood Church and is the Chairman of the Champions Network of Churches alongside Joel Osteen and Lakewood Church. Additionally, he founded Life Church and served as its pastor for 30 years.
Biography
His full name is Philip Munsey. Born on August 18, 1956, in Munster, Indiana, he grew up with a strong Christian background. He is the second child in the family of Bishop Frank Munsey and Ruth Munsey, founders of the Family Christian Center in the 1950s. Phil’s older brother, Pastor Steve Munsey, now leads the church.
At 17, Phil realized his destiny was to preach. He started his ministry as an intern at his father’s church and studied theology through correspondence at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. He quickly began leading youth in various churches, from Stockton to Alexandria, Louisiana, and Columbus, Ohio, eventually preaching at 11 different churches.

Family Life
Pastor Jeanie Munsey is happily married to Phil. They met while Phil was a youth pastor in Detroit, and they got married on April 8, 1978.
Jeannie is an interior decorator, worship leader, and published songwriter. She finished high school at 16 and pursued a B.A. in music, later receiving an honorary doctorate in music and pastoral ministry.
After getting married, they moved to Orange County. They have three children: Kara Bisel, Phillip Bisel, and Andrew Bisel, along with three grandchildren.
Kara and her husband, Douglas Bisel, are both preachers at Life Church. Kara also hosts an Apple podcast called “The Unscripted Mom.”
Ministry/Church
In 1985, Phil Munsey preached his first sermon from the Lord’s Prayer in his in-laws’ living room in Huntington Beach. There were 11 people in the group.
While Phil worked as a key grip for a small production firm, Jeannie earned money playing the piano at Broadway in Crystal Court.
Pastor Munsey and his wife Jeannie were founders of Life Church in Irvine, California. They built their church by moving to different locations across south Orange County every Sunday.
They pastored the church for thirty years before Phil left for Lakewood. Currently, he is the chairman of Joel Osteen’s Champions Network and regularly serves as a guest pastor at One Church in Los Angeles.
