Choose Faith Over Fear

As Christians, one of the major decisions we must make is to choose faith over fear. This is a proof that we know the God we serve and we believe absolutely that he is the Almighty, most powerful and most living and that there is absolutely nothing he cannot do.

Choosing faith over fear simply entails believing in God’s plans and love even in  the face of challenges, difficulties and dangers. It is an act of trusting that God can never let you down or disappoint you.

Faith is the fulcrum of Christian life. You cannot call yourself a Christian if you do not have absolute faith in God.

In times of uncertainty and challenges, the choice between faith and fear can define our spiritual journey. As Christians, our faith in God is not just a belief but a transformative force that empowers us to overcome fear. Let’s delve into the depths of this topic and discover how choosing faith over fear aligns with our Christian walk.

Understanding Fear:

Fear is a natural human emotion triggered by perceived threats or dangers. It can manifest in various forms such as anxiety, worry, doubt, and insecurity. While fear can be a valid response to real threats, it becomes detrimental when it overwhelms us and hinders our trust in God.

Scriptural Foundation:

The Bible addresses fear and faith extensively, offering timeless wisdom and encouragement. One of the most quoted verses on this topic is found in 2 Timothy 1:7 (NIV), which says, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” This verse highlights that fear does not originate from God; instead, He equips us with strength, love, and clarity of mind through faith.

Choosing Faith:

Faith, on the other hand, is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1, ESV). It is the bedrock of our relationship with God, anchoring us in His promises and character. Choosing faith over fear is not about denying challenges or dangers but placing our trust in God’s sovereignty and goodness despite the circumstances.

Trusting in God’s Promises:

Psalm 56:3 (NIV) reminds us, “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.” Our faith is strengthened when we lean on God’s promises, knowing that He is faithful to fulfill His Word.
Seeking God’s Presence:

Psalm 23:4 (NIV) declares, “Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me.” God’s presence dispels fear and gives us courage to face challenges.
Surrendering Control:

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV) instructs, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Surrendering control to God acknowledges His wisdom and authority over our lives.

Overcoming Fear:

Choosing faith over fear is a daily decision that requires intentional steps and reliance on God’s grace. Here are practical ways to overcome fear through faith:

Prayer and Meditation: Regular communication with God through prayer and meditating on His Word strengthens our faith and brings peace amidst fear.

Community and Support: Surrounding ourselves with fellow believers provides encouragement, accountability, and prayer support in times of fear and uncertainty.

Boldness in Action: Stepping out in faith and obeying God’s leading, even when it seems daunting, opens doors for His miraculous work and strengthens our trust in Him.

Bible Verses about choosing fear over faith

Some Bible verses clearly talk about the ways and essence of choosing faith over fear as Christians.

Below are some of the key Bible verses for choosing faith over fear

And delivered me from all my fears.”

Saying to you, ‘Fear not, I will help you.’”

Conclusion:

By trusting in His promises, seeking His presence, and surrendering control, we can navigate life’s challenges with courage and confidence. Let faith be our response to fear, knowing that God is with us every step of the way.
