Biography

Jones was born on January 31, 1950, in Spanish Town, Jamaica, to Bishop Robert and Marjorie Jones. His father was both a pastor and a politician.

Bishop Jones comes from a diverse family with seven children, including his sister Grace Jones, a famous actress and singer. In 1965, when Noel was 15, his parents moved the family, including his younger siblings Chris and Grace, to Syracuse, New York. At 19, he began his ministry.

In June 1994, Jones took over as pastor of the Greater Bethany Community Church, succeeding Bishop Robert W. McMurray. The church is situated at 84th and Hoover Street in South Los Angeles, California.

Due to the significant growth in membership during his leadership, in 2003, the church acquired a new building in Gardena, California, named “The City of Refuge,” which now has 17,000 members.

The City of Refuge Sanctuary Choir, a choir in the church, released their debut album, “Welcome to the City,” in 2007, reaching number one on the Billboard 200 chart and the Billboard Top Gospel Albums chart.

Jones was featured in the 2002 documentary “Hoover Street Revival,” showcasing the Greater Bethany Community Church in Los Angeles.

He also appeared on the reality show “Preachers of L.A.,” which started on October 9, 2013, alongside other religious figures like Bishop Clarence McClendon, Pastor Wayne Chaney, Bishop Ron Gibson, Pastor Jay Haizlip, and Pastor Deitrick Haddon.
